At this year's WCS in Hong Kong, delegates discussed the pressing personnel shortage in the logistics industry, particularly focusing on the air cargo sector.

Jack So, chairman of the Hong Kong Airport Authority, emphasised the pivotal role of air cargo – as “The Backbone of Commerce and Trade".

Despite acknowledging this, the industry is struggling with a shortage of workers, especially regarding the lack of women and young entrants.

  • Wilson Kwong, CEO of Hactl, expressed concerns about the challenges in attracting and retaining talent, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. He stressed the importance of adapting to employees' needs, highlighting the significance of work-life balance and flexible shift patterns, especially for the younger generation.

  • Industry professionals discussed factors contributing to the workforce shortage, such as the intangible nature of air cargo compared to industries producing tangible products.
