Red Sea and Suez Canal routing update

Container shipping routes between Asia, the Middle East and Europe are starting to change again. Following recent updates from Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, one shared Asia-Europe service operated under their Gemini Cooperation is planned to resume sailing through the Red Sea and the Suez Canal from mid-February 2026.

This would be the first Gemini service to return to the trans-Suez route since diversions were introduced due to regional security concerns.

What is changing?

From mid-February 2026, the ME11 service is planned to shift from the Cape of Good Hope route back to the Red Sea on selected sailings in both directions.

The change is intended to shorten transit times but will only remain in place if security conditions allow, with alternative routing plans ready should the situation worsen.

What does this mean for shippers?

• Confirm insurance coverage remains appropriate
