Taiwan Air Cargo Congestion Causes Handling Delays at Taoyuan Airport

5 November 2026 2 MINS. Read TAIWAN

Staff and equipment shortages at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) are slowing cargo handling, affecting both imports and exports. Businesses shipping to or from Taiwan should allow extra time for airport processing, particularly where shipments are tied to fixed delivery deadlines.

For importers, a flight’s arrival is only one milestone. Cargo still needs to be unloaded and processed before it can be collected. When handling takes longer than expected, a shipment can land on schedule but become available for collection later than planned. This can affect onward transport bookings and delivery appointments.

For exporters, congestion can slow the processing of cargo before departure. Shipments booked on a specific flight may need additional time at the airport, particularly when the schedule leaves little room for delays. Where cargo needs to reach its destination by a fixed date, it’s worth checking the latest handling outlook before committing to a delivery window.

Based on an operational update from NNR Taiwan on 5 November 2026, the table below shows estimated times for unpacking aircraft cargo containers and pallets after arrival. Cargo collection may take additional time.

Cargo TerminalEstimated Breakdown Time
CI1 – 2 days
BR2 – 3 days
Far Glory 1 – 2 days

If you have an import due to arrive at Taoyuan, confirm when the cargo will be available before sending a vehicle to collect it. For an upcoming export, share your required delivery date with your freight forwarder as early as possible so they can factor in any additional handling time.

It’s also worth reviewing shipments that have little flexibility, such as urgent replenishment stock or goods booked into a fixed warehouse slot. Flagging these early gives your logistics team more time to review the schedule and discuss options if delays put the delivery date at risk.
