Trade Alert

China Import Requirements on Pinewood Timber and Lumber

By In USA Trade Alerts On 17th February 2022

Effective Feb 1, there are new requirements for importing pinewood, including timber and lumber, into China from seven countries (the U.S., Canada, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Portugal, and Spain.)

Timber and Lumber must be certified free of the Pinewood Nematode (roundworms), Longhorn Beetles, and other forest pests.

Pinewood timber and lumber must arrive through one of seven designated ports and are subject to quarantine and evaluation of the phytosanitary certificates. Items found in violation may be returned or destroyed.

The attached report contains an unofficial translation of the regulations. According to our sources in China, these restrictions do not currently affect wood packing material used in the standard transportation of cargo, e.g., wood pallets or other shipping materials. ISPM regulations still apply to the packing material; however, there is no need for Phytosanitary Certificates at this time.

We hope this information is helpful and informative.
