The United Kingdom and the United States have reached a significant new agreement that eliminates tariffs on UK-manufactured pharmaceuticals and certain medical technologies entering the US market. The deal, confirmed by the UK government, aims to support faster access to essential medicines, attract investment into the UK life sciences sector and deepen cooperation between two of the world’s most advanced health and research economies.

Under the agreement, UK-origin pharmaceutical products will benefit from zero per cent tariffs for at least three years, improving cost efficiency for exporters and supporting a more predictable trading environment. Alongside the tariff commitments, the UK has outlined plans to update elements of its medicines assessment processes to help accelerate the availability of innovative treatments for patients while maintaining strong clinical and cost-effectiveness standards.
