Products Hit with Higher Section 301 China Tariffs in January

Batteries, Magnets, and More Subject to Higher Section 301 China Tariffs

On January 1, 2026, several commodities will face higher Section 301 duties when imported from China. Previously, some of the products were not subject to the tariffs, while others were subject to a lower rate. The scheduled changes were announced on September 18, 2024, in a Federal Register (FR) Notice (89 FR 76581) and are the last of several increases.

The products on the list are:

  • Lithium-ion batteries
  • Medical gloves
  • Natural graphite
  • Permanent magnets
  • Facemasks

Details

Here is a list of the additional Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the U.S. (HTSUS) numbers, Section 301 China duty rates, and covered products. The list may also be found in the HTSUS Chapter 99 U.S. note 31 (g), (h), (i), or in Annex A of the 2024 FR notice.

9903.91.06 – Duty Rate: 25%

  • Natural graphite: 2504.10.10, 2504.10.50, 2504.90.00
  • Permanent magnets: 8505.11.00
  • Lithium-ion batteries: 8507.60.00

9903.91.07 – Duty Rate: 50%

  • N95 respirators of textiles: 6307.90.9842 or 6307.90.9844
  • Respirators of textiles, other than N95 respirators: 6307.90.9850
  • Face masks of textiles: 6307.90.9870 or 6307.90.9875

9903.91.08 – Duty Rate: 100%

  • Medical or surgical gloves: 4015.12.10
