Section 232 Critical Minerals Investigation Results in No Immediate Tariffs

On January 14, 2026, the White House issued a proclamation on Adjusting Imports of Processed Critical Minerals and their Derivative Products into the United States. The proclamation outlines the findings of a Section 232 investigation into the imports of the goods. While the imports were found to threaten the national security of the United States, the President decided to direct the Secretary, the Trade Representative, and other senior executive branch officials, to pursue negotiations with foreign nations to reach agreements to address the matter. They were asked to consider price floors for trade in critical minerals and other trade-restricting measures. Updates are due back to the President within 180 days.

At this time, no additional tariffs will be implemented on processed critical minerals and their derivative products (PCMDPs).
