Taiwanese carriers set to benefit from Vietnam tariff shift

Taiwan’s top three container shipping lines, Evergreen, Yang Ming and Wan Hai, are set to gain from a proposed new tariff deal between the US and Vietnam. The agreement would place a 20% tariff on goods made in Vietnam, and a higher 40% tariff on items shipped through Vietnam but produced elsewhere.

These shipping lines had already expanded their services within Asia earlier this year, increasing capacity on routes to Vietnam in anticipation of changing trade patterns.

As a result, they’re well set to capture diverted cargo that might otherwise originate from Vietnam or be rerouted through Vietnam-bound services into the US market.
