Air India Flight AI 171 Crash – Ahmedabad, India

We are deeply saddened to learn about the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI 171. The aircraft, a Boeing 787, en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, went down just minutes after taking off from Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon (June 12, 2025), crashing into a building used as doctors’ accommodation near BJ Medical College. The impact triggered a massive fire, causing extensive damage on the ground.

The flight was carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members. Air India has confirmed that 241 lives were lost, with only one sole survivor. Among those on board were citizens from India, the UK, Portugal and Canada. Sadly, several people on the ground, including students, also lost their lives.

Following the incident, airport operations were suspended while authorities carried out investigations and recovery efforts. The severe congestion experienced yesterday (June 12) was due to the temporary suspension of all airport operations for approximately three hours after the crash. Once flight operations resumed later in the evening, the traffic situation gradually began to ease.

As per the latest reports this morning, there is currently no congestion in or around the Ahmedabad airport area.
