NNR provided specialized support for Ocean freight services for our long-standing and valued customer who specialise in automotive and industrial battery design, manufacture and sales.

NNR manages shipments by Ocean freight from Asia to customers and distributors throughout Europe, supporting the management of inventory levels and warehouse capacity by utilising appropriate sailings. Dynamic supply includes drop-shipments into various destination ports.

Our particular challenge came in the shape of 3 containers, each loaded with heavy weight, Hazardous ‘Class 8’ batteries from Southeast Asia. The product was destined for continental Europe and concerns were rising over the tight lead-time to turn around this product to meet delivery deadlines. With this in mind, additional resources were planned to receive the containers in the UK at night, decant and re-label the product before morning, and be loaded onto outbound trucks.

NNR presented an alternative solution in view of the time constraints, being that the containers should terminate their ocean journey in Hamburg, releasing the cargo to our bonded warehouse facility. NNR would then decant and re-label the product in Germany for overland delivery by truck.

Whilst the arrangement seemed initially straightforward, the intricacies of the multiple labelling requirements soon became evident and the consequences for any non-compliance could lead to rejection of the cargo.

With the importance of the opportunity in mind, NNR sent staff from the UK to join the NNR Germany team to support the execution of the operation with great precision. Our teams worked through the evening to ensure the customers received the full quantity of pristinely labelled product on time. All parties were extremely satisfied and the dramatic effect for our customer is that it has enabled them to increase their orders with their customer in line with an expansion and profile drive in Europe.
