July 2022: Air Market Update
By NNR USA In Insight On 14th July 2022
TIP OF THE MONTH
It’s monsoon season!
Freight headed to India should be shrink-wrapped appropriately to help protect from water damage. Heavy machines and other sensitive products should be vacuum-packed to prevent moisture seepage.
Air belly capacity is up with increased summer travel. The fuel surcharge is rising with many carriers, playing catch-up to last month’s high jet fuel prices.
- Carrier fuel surcharge increases are between $0.05 – 0.20 per kilo, with carriers’ surcharges rising into the $1.20 – 1.60 per kilo range.
- Shanghai is moving closer to normal operations, clearing the lockdown backlog. Space to the USA is available, with pricing stabilizing.
- Export rates into China and Singapore continue to be high with no signs of them stabilizing or being reduced.
- Capacity into Japan continues to improve, though rates remain higher than last year. Overall, flights are stable, and transit time is good.
- Brazil rates are high, and space is tight. We manage costs and transit time to protect against sharp fluctuations, but fuel rates have continually increased.
- Europe is stable with base rates comparable to pre-COVID for most destinations.
- USA congestion continues to improve, but we still see wait times with some carriers.
