On April 8, 2022, President Biden signed into law H.R. 6968,  a bill prohibiting the importation of energy products from Russia.

• The energy products are classified under chapter 27 of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule.
• The bill makes an exception for prior contracts or agreements.

Chapter 27 covers mineral fuels, mineral oils, and products of their distillation, bituminous substances, and mineral waxes.
